The next 12 months in the French capital are set to provide a wealth of cultural highlights, from an immersive Picasso exhibit at the Atelier des Lumières to a retrospective of the works of American director Wes Anderson and even a call to the dancefloor with the Paris Philharmonic’s exploration of disco.

1- Du Coeur à la Main: Dolce&Gabbana ("From the heart to the hand")

Fans will want to reserve tickets for the first overseas showing of this exhibition dedicated to Italian fashion design duo Dolce&Gabbana, as it sold out during its initial run in Milan in 2024.

Expect to see more than 200 of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s original creations dating from the inception of their brand in the 1980s onwards. Often drawing on different elements of Italian culture for inspiration – from art history to opera, ballet and cinema – the brand is also intertwined with popular music imagery, notably providing costumes for pop icon Madonna for her 1993 tour "The Girly Show".

Dolce&Gabbana designs are known for their humour, extravagance and fine Italian artistry, all of which will be on display across ten rooms in Paris’s Grand Palais.

Du Coeur à la Main: Dolce&Gabbana at the Grand Palais runs from January 10 to March 31.

2- Louvre Couture

The extensive archives of the Louvre have long been a source of inspiration for the world of fashion. Now, for the first time, the world’s largest museum has organised an exhibition entirely dedicated to haute couture.

Louvre Couture will explore the connections between the museum's antiques and high fashion by placing 65 creations from French and international fashion houses in juxtaposition with 30 antiques dating from the Byzantine era to the 1800s. Interspersing designs by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel and Japan’s Yohji Yamamoto alongside artifacts such as tapestries, furniture and royal armour, the show illuminates common references, creation techniques and visual language and sheds light on how the Louvre’s archives continue to inspire contemporary culture.

Louvre Couture runs from January 24 to July 21.

3- Au fil de l’or ("The golden thread")

Prepare for a dazzling display from Paris’s museum of Indigenous art in this exhibition dedicated to the use of gold in cultural costumes from Northern Africa to Japan via the Middle East and China.

Discovered more than 7,000 years ago, gold quickly became an enduring source of fascination and symbol of wealth for humankind. The artifacts on display in this exhibition – including jewellery, weaponry and clothing – explore the scientific innovation and artistry involved in transforming the world’s most precious metal into attire.

But it is also a global celebration of tradition and opulence. Visitors can wonder at the splendour of Indian fabrics woven with golden threads, sparkling kimonos from Edo Japan and creations from contemporary Chinese fashion designer Guo Pei.

Au fil de l’or at the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac runs from February 11 to July 6.

4- Disco

Regulars from the dance floors of the 1970s are in the spotlight at the Paris Philharmonic’s Disco exhibition.

The global music phenomenon has its roots in Black musical culture from the US, namely soul, gospel and funk. Videos, photographs, costumes and – of course – music will explore how disco emerged as an expression of social resistance, with strong links to the civil and gay rights movements as well as feminism.

But it wasn’t all politics. Visitors can also take a deep dive into how the genre, known for its flamboyant costumes and dance moves, embodied a unique brand of hedonism and gave birth to the modern-day night club.

Disco at the Philharmonie de Paris runs from February 14 to August 17.

5- Picasso: L’art en movement ("Picasso: Art in movement")

In this retrospective of one of the 20th century’s most well-known and prolific artists, light and sound projections will show famous works by Pablo Picasso as they’ve never been seen before.

The father of modern art’s explorations of colour, form and emotion are perfectly suited to the immersive displays at the Atelier des Lumières, where spectators are plunged inside the artwork with the help of lighted projections on the walls, ceiling and floor. Visitors can expect to be taken on a tour through the evolution of Picasso’s style, his inspirations and the recurrent themes in his work inside the Atelier's cavernous warehouse.

It is no mean feat for an artist whose oeuvre spanned genres from cubism to collage and included a staggering array of disciplines. Certain to be included in the show are his masterpieces "Guernica" and "Les Demoiselles d’Avignon".

Picasso: L’art en movement at the Atelier des Lumières runs from February 14 to June 29.
